Nottingham Open: Shuai Zhang reaches last-eight Defeated Briston’s Jodie Burrage ; Magda Linette ousted
Shuai Zhang
defeated Briton’s Jodie Burrage to reach the quarter-finals of the Nottingham
Open on Wednesday. The Chinese, seeded fourth, defeated the qualifier, 6-2,
7-6(4) in an hour and 23 minutes. Zhang won 67% of her first-serve points to
Burrage’s 64% and 48% of her second-serve points to the latter’s 43%.
In terms of break-point
conversion, while Zhang saved two of the four break points she faced, she
converted four of the six break points she had on Burrage’s serve. In the
quarter-finals, Zhang will play Tereza Martincova.
The
Czech upset eighth seed Magda Linette in their second-round match, 6-2, 7-6(3)
in an hour and 39 minutes. Martincova won almost 74% of her first-serve points
to Linette’s 61% and almost 62% of her second-serve points to the latter’s 45%.
Martincova
saved one of the two break points she faced while converting three of the five
break points she had on the Pole’s serve. Viktorija Golubic also advanced to
the quarter-finals after winning her second-round match against Heather Watson.
The
Swiss needed 90 minutes to post a 7-5, 6-2 win over the Briton. For a place in
the semi-finals, Golubic will take on either fifth seed Ajla Tomljanovic or
Watson’s fellow Briton, Katie Boulter next.

Meanwhile, two remaining
first-round matches were also completed on Wednesday after they were suspended
on Tuesday due to rain.
Alison
Riske defeated Ukrainian qualifier Daria Snigur 7-5, 6-3 in an hour and 26
minutes. The sixth-seeded American won 72% of her first-serve points to
Snigur’s 60% and 52% of her second-serve points to the latter’s 33%.
She
broke Snigur’s serve four times while saving two of the four break points she
faced. In the second round of the Nottingham Open, Riske will play Caroline
Garcia whose first-round match was also suspended on Tuesday. The Frenchwoman
beat Riske’s compatriot, Lauren Davis 6-3, 7-6(3) in an hour and 38 minutes.
