Tennisspeak: July 27th, London: The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) confirmed on Wednesday that Dutch tennis coach Max Wenders has been banned from the sport for 12 years for match-fixing. Wenders admitted to "multiple match-fixing charges," destroying evidence, and failing to report a corrupt approach, according to ITIA. 

"The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) has today confirmed that Dutch tennis coach Max Wenders has been banned from the sport for a period of 12 years after admitting to multiple match-fixing charges," the ITIA said in a statement. Serena Williams and Iga Swiatek headline the US Open 2022 entry list.

Notably, one of the charges leveled against Wenders fell under a rule that prohibits tennis officials from "directly or indirectly assisting any Player in not using his or her best efforts in any Event." However, the ITIA did not specify when or where the alleged misconduct occurred, nor did it name any participants. 

In April 2021, Anti-Corruption Hearing Officer (AHO) Professor Richard McLaren heard the case and ruled that Wenders should also pay a $12,000 fine. The sanction was delayed due to Wenders' legal team submissions, but AHO McLaren has now lifted that prohibition. Novak Djokovic joins Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray on Team Europe for the Laver Cup 2022.

Wenders was banned and fined $12,000 at a hearing in April 2021, according to the ITIA, but the sanctions were not published until now due to submissions from Wenders' legal team. He is not permitted to compete in any tennis tournament sanctioned by the sport's major governing bodies until 2033. According to reports, Wenders has worked as a coach, assistant, or hitting partner with several WTA Tour players. 

He is barred from participating in, coaching at, or attending any tennis event authorized or sanctioned by the governing bodies of tennis for a period of 12 years from the date of the decision (28 April 2021).
